Slowly working through the last annoying days of the year. Today is the 3rd last time I’ll need to wear a suit (The other 2 being Monday and Tuesday). Tomorrow I have the science Olympics, but it’s only a half day and a week early this year. Come Wednesday, life will be much simpler.
I slept well last night and got up early since my body is used to it. Had some time to experiment with some workouts and even did some yoga. We’ll see how it translates throughout the day.
I’ve noticed that my patience is waining these days and it might have to do with some *supplements that I’m taking. I’ll need to be cognizant of it and continue to recognize some patterns until the supplements take their course. It’s definitely not the lack of sleep!
Workout:
2k row every min on min get off and do 5 thrusters
15 C on bike 25 45lb kb swings x 4
30 mins yoga

April 27th, but feels like June this morning! Supposed to be a high of 22C . I love/hate these days because they tease us. I’m sure we’ll be back down to 10C soon enough.
My sleep has been just OK this week. I’m getting up earlier and definitely don’t have the afternoon fatigue I once used to, but my patience is low. I find myself being grumpier than normal in the afternoon, especially the last two days. I’m not sure if it’s because its a long week or if it’s sleep quality. Very hard to determine. This morning was the first in a while where I woke up looking tired. Didn’t feel any different though, just had that tired look about me. I slept well and even got up to pee. Cool thing is I was able to pretty much get back to sleep. I need to remember to adjust my head strap stetting today. I think the CPAP mask needs to be tighter. When it leaks it makes an awful racket that’s difficult to fall back asleep to.
Workout was good this morning. No smoke today and the warmer temperature didn’t seem to translate into a tough workout. Definitely needed the row instead of the run. My arms now ache, but that change-up is key.
Workout:
5k row
2 mins hard on bike
3 x 8 deadlift (had a few 10s)
3 x 12 bag cleans
3 x 10 one arm rows
3 x 10 bar jumps

Reading Wednesday. I need to get some stuff done this morning that’s been having on my to do list for too long. Most importantly the Quest application. I’m still humming and hawing about the application for my work due at the end of May. I really would like to get into leadership, but don’t want to stray too far from the classroom. I’m at my best in an environment where I can be creative and have some control over the outcome. And, obviously, I need to be in a position where I’m presenting and/or speaking. The challenge with leadership is that those opportunities become less and less due to the changes. I really need to speak with someone about it.
My workout this morning was good, mostly because I felt like I had slept better. I really think it comes down to calorie and especially sugar intake. Alcohol is obviously an issue, but that’s easily controlled. Hunger and sugar are tough nuts to crack. I think the fasting concept is going to help me here because when I fast, it doesn’t seem to bother me as much. Once my eating window opens, it does become difficult to control the food intake, but I’m pretty good at closing it down again. The secret is to keep shrinking that window and keep a close eye on the calorie intake.
Workout:
22 min run
3 x 500 row
40 double unders
3 x 10 cleans (heavy)
3 x 25 back rows
3 x 25 kb swings

End of April is quickly approaching! It’s time to really buckle down and give a good 2-3 week chance to test out a stricter diet. Once the summer hits it will be more difficult to manage it being home and having access to food. Also the warmer weather is going to motivate me to CONTINUE to keep the lifestyle going. I think starting it now is much more beneficial than trying it when the good times arrive.
I had an interesting conversation about plus period with some of our teachers yesterday. Its interesting to think that their beliefs are so much further away from mine. What really resonates with me is that perhaps I’m starting to see the light of leadership. No longer am I afraid to speak up (not that I was before, just more accommodating). We have a real opportunity here to offer some interesting programs. We need to be able to offer cool and important 21st C programs to students. To have a place where they can come and change the pace of traditional schooling and fire different circuits in the brain. Anyway, more to come on this.
Workout was good this morning. The wake-up was a little shocking. However, I feel good now and noticed that when I look int he mirror, I’m much more rested than normal. This thing must be working! The running is still a bit tough, but keep on plugging away.
Workout:
22 min run
3 x 500 row
30s hard on bike
3 x 8 clean and press
3 x 12 bag cleans
3 x 10 one arm rows

It’s my birthday! I went to the Leafs game last night and watched them lose. Too bad, it was fun though. The disadvantage is that I started the week off tired. Hopefully I can get into the gym today and shake off some of the beer I drank all weekend.
Time to evaluate my sleep. I have to say that I feel MUCH better these days. Honestly more than I thought. Yesterday was a prime example of how things have changed. Usually when Henry naps, I would get dozey and need some form of stimulation. I DID slightly feel that way yesterday, but when I sat down I realized that I actually wasn’t tired. It was just a habit that I’ve gotten myself into. So YES, I’m ready to admit that the CPAP is game-changing. What I need next is a string of days where I can get a solid sleep without alcohol to better evaluate what’s going on. I’ll hopefully get on that this week.
I keep flirting with this idea of trying to drop 5 or 6 pounds. It really isn’t that hard, I just need to cut out my calories more than I’m used to. The challenge will be alcohol (of course). Even if I can manage two weeks sans beer, I could be in good shape. If I’m going to do it, I’ll need to begin before the nice warm weather hits.
Workout: (at school)
Squats
Tri-pulldowns
Leg press

Road Salt
A few weeks ago we had an April snow. It wasn’t much and didn’t last long. It’s not unusual in Canada and isn’t regarded as any life changing event like what might happen if April snow arrived in Tennessee. Since Canada is so familiar with snow, not much changes with regards to its removal if it’s Deember, February or April. Plows, salters, and shovelers arrive en masse to remove the unwatned (especially in April) mess.

Woke up with some nose pain this morning and my nose is back to being screwed. I brought my mask with me to see if they can either fix it or give me another one. Clearly I can’t keep wearing the current one without some protection or something. I’ll look up the pros and cons of the nose pillow edition today and see what I’m in for.
On a sour note, my phone has randomly stopped working. It was in my pocket during the earth day show and when I checked on it after it seemed to be broken. Can’t get the screen to respond now. Too bad because it wasn’t that old! Hopefully one of the IT guys here knows more than I do about it. I updated the firmware and even restored it with no luck. It better not be bricked!
Grade 3 and 5 start today. Although the changeover will kind of suck, in the long run it’s all over and should be easy to deal with now that I have no other commitments.
Workout was tough this morning. I’m not sure if its because I didn’t get enough calories yesterday, but goodness my muscles had a difficult time responding. I made it through though. Definitely going to take tomorrow am off and face the pain of an early Saturday morning.
Workout:
5k row
3 x 2 min on bike
3 x 7 clean and press (hard)
3 x 12 bag clean
3 x 40 double unders
3 x 20 back rows

Earth Day show is here. This is it. The last extra curricular thing I need to do for the year. Tomorrow at this time, I’ll be cruising! I’m hoping that it all goes well considering I don’t feel totally prepared. Good thing is that it’s only a 45 min show and it should go quickly.
The red mark on my nose appears to be staying. As a matter of fact, it’s getting bigger. I don’t think the tape is working as it should be. My guess is that the night cream is aggravating it and I’ll try not to cover it tonight and see how the reaction is. What a pain because otherwise, I’m sleeping very well and don’t seem too bothered by the CPAP.
Tomorrow is the switch over for gr 5 and 3 which is kind of good because I’m looking forward to a change. I’m happy to have an extra prep in this schedule too!
Workout:
22 min run
3 x 500 row
3 x 10 back squat
3 x 30 KB swings
3 x 10 one arm rows
3 x 10 bar jumps

Back after a relaxing and restful Easter break. Good thing I’m rested because the next two days are going to be intense! Tomorrow is Earth Day and then the following day is the change over to gr 3 and 5 science. BANG as they say. Good news is that one week from now I should be chugging along just fine. Science Olympics is going to suck a little this year because I’m headed to TFC on Friday and the following week I have the Jays game on Saturday. I suppose it’s good that I’m getting more rest these days because of the CPAP. Speaking of that, I’m definitely starting to notice the difference. Yesterday I slept for 9 hours and didn’t require a nap in the afternoon. I got a bit tired, but went for a walk and was cured. I still need to wait until at least May to make the official call. Last night was wierd because I was up more than usual. I think the secret is that when I’m asleep - it’s restful. I’ll need to keep watch of that instead of the total time in bed (which is also slightly important).
My back has been aching the last few days and bothered me during my run on Sunday. It could be because I’m sleeping poorly. I also suspect the kitchen chair has something to do with it. If it gets better over the next few days, I’ll know that was the cause.
My diet went to crap this weekend thanks to desserts. Last night it bed, I felt like crap because of it. Being busy is the secret to avoiding all this extra caloric intake including alcohol. Need to remember that if it’s going to work!
Workout:
22 min run
3 x 500 row
3 x 40 double unders
3 x 8 power cleans
3 x 6 DB complex
3 x 20 back rows

Almost half-way through April! It has gone quick. The final couple of weeks is going to be intense. I’ll be working the next two Saturdays and They’ll both be long weeks. Oh well, once it’s over, May is going to be a piece of cake because I won’t have any extra work to do! Good to keep in mind when the going gets tough.
Had a decent sleep last night. I think that I might have slept through the entire night if Henry didn’t wake up. I’m close to making some assessments, just need a bit more data. These next two intense weeks will really give me something to work with. Things are looking good though!
Workout was decent this morning. I upped the weight for the power clean and it was difficult but manageable. If I had some structure to my program, I’d be able to monitor it more closely. It seems like I’m always just brushing up against that last 5% of results.
Alright, today will be long, but I get a nice 4 day weekend. This will be the last tough day (full day of teaching) for the rest of the year!
Workout:
22 min run
3 x 500 row
3 x 10 power clean
3 x 30 KB swing
3 x 10 one arm rows
3 x 30s hard on bike
