Had a late morning because of a Henry drop-off, but I made it with just a minute to spare. Of course Barry and Heather saw me, but what can you do? Just bad luck I suppose. It appears that my nose damage is healing and the tape is working. I’ll keep that going until I’m able know for sure if the tape works. If it doesn’t appear to be getting better at the end of next week, I’ll go to the store and get it checked out. Still on the fence about sleeping. Had a weird incident where I woke up and took the mask off because I couldn’t breathe. My asthma was definitely bothering me more than usual. Odd. Went back to sleep and according to Fitbit, I got 7.5 hours of sleep with 2 washroom breaks. I’ve also woken up before 4 am the last two days feeling refreshed and ready to go. I’m hoping this has something to do with a better sleep. Only time will tell.

It’s going to be a busy couple of weeks coming up with Earth day and the Quest proposal. Just need to manage my time appropriately. i do need to get that dry ice ordered today. The good news is that it should be fun though! Also need to remember to put on a quiz for the show.

Workout was great too. I’m really starting to feel good about the runs again. Seems like I have a spring in my step. My breathing is still suffering, but I know it’s temporary and should fix itself once I get over this weird long-term sickness.

Workout:
22 min run
3 x 500 row
30s hard on bike
3 x 8 clean and press
3 x 12 bag clean
3 x 6 DB complex

I had my first early morning workout with the CPAP at the helm and I have to say it was strange. I’m having some very vivid dreams but they’re related to the CPAP. I feel like I’m in and out of consciousness, but appear to be sleeping through the night. I obviously need to give it some time before I can conclude on anything. Definitely feels different though. I’m hoping it’s a good thing, not bad!

I was definitely groggy for the workout, but didn’t feel any negative effects once I started running. I noticed that my back was a bit stiff in the morning however the squats went fine and overall it was a decent workout.

One of the big 4 events is over for the month. Next up is Earth Day show. I need to begin the process of gathering all of the stuff for it. I’ll need to make a reminders list for all the information that I require. Just trying to punch my ticket to the end of the month. That’s when things begin to settle for a bit and the light at the end of the tunnel begins to shine!

Workout:
22 min run
3 x 500 row
3 x 10 back squat
3 x 30 KB swings
3 x 10 bar jumps
3 x 10 one arm rows
3 x 10 two arm swings

Invention Convention is here. It’s strange because it doesn’t feel as stressed this year. I’m trying to think what I’ve done differently since last year, but I can’t seem to figure it out. I won’t have the video booth this year, but it wasn’t used. I’d like for every group to come and put their thoughts in, but that could happen after. Anyway, the time for indecisiveness is over and getting it done is now a priority!

CPAP treatment is going well (I think). It will be this week that really determines whether or not it’s begging to work. I woke up this morning with crusty eyes which either means I’m sick or got a good night’s sleep. I was dreaming fairly vividly about Invention Convention and even feel like I was up at some points. So who knows. Only time will tell. This journal entry will help with that.

I took the morning off working out because hockey was pretty straining yesterday. I also wanted to get that extra sleep. perhaps this sleep apnea is an x-factor in a lot of things!

Workout:
Skip today and workout good Friday

Well, answers were received. I have REM sleep apnea. I’m getting less than half the quality sleep that’s required and a CPAP was thrown into my life. Literally. I had a disastrous time with it last night. I felt like I was suffocating because the wind in my nose made it impossible to breathe out and each breath required a vast amount of effort. In some preliminary research, I’ve found that it’s possible that I need to adjust the pressure up or down and the heat/humidity. I certainly hope this is the fix because that amount of breathing effort is insane. There’s no possible way I can get a good night’s sleep with it. I kept it on for about 1.5 hours and even dosed off at one point. But eventually I couldn’t handle it so I ripped it off and threw it to the ground.

Since I went to bed so early and obviously had a lot on my mind, I got up at 5 and worked out. Once your body is in a routine, it’s very tough to break it. I felt great this morning and took my time to get through the workout. I suppose we called that a ‘de-load’ or ‘active recovery’ workout.

Workout:
5k row
2 x 2 mins on bike
3 mins heavy bag
3 x 80 lb thrusters
3 x 10 one arm (each arm) KB clean and press
3 x 20 back rows

Finally get some news this morning. I’m excited to hear what the Dr is going to say. My hope is that the answer is definitive and not some form of “I’m not entirely sure….or it could be…” That way I can get on with figuring out how to better my sleep. Obviously, getting a CPAP will suck but if it helps with breathing, I’m game.

Workout was good this morning. I ran after using some new pre-workout. Can’t say that I felt any different (maybe a little more tingly), but I own it now and will have to keep trying.

Seth Godin made an interesting comment on money: “Once you have enough to afford beans and shelter, then everything else you tell yourself about money is a story.” This is very true. Having the luxury of seeing friends in different demographics has afforded me some perspective on the money situation. I can’ say for certain, but on the surface it seems as if we all all equally as happy. I conclude that possessions only have a minor effect on overall happiness. That extra money really only accounts for the story that people tell themselves. Very interesting.

My mind is flirting with this idea of a Ketogentic diet. The reality is that I would need to give it 10-12 weeks. With the summer coming up, that makes it slightly tricky. Not impossible, but sacrifices would have to be made. Beers on the patio would have to turn to vodka’s on the patio...

Workout:
22 min run
3 x 500 row
3 x 10 squats
3 x 10 bar jumps
3 x 20 KB swings
3 x 6 DB complex

Wednesday morning. Spring is in the air. Charlotte and I walked through the woods today and although it was cold, you can tell that sunny days aren’t far off. The last two days have flown by because I’ve been so busy. It’s a good thing too. The issue right now is that I’m supposed to go to the city for coaching today and don’t have the time to make that happen. I’ll tread carefully.

I read something interesting yesterday about trying to get your subconscious to work during the night. Some billionaire investment guys in California go to bed with one problem on their mind. When they wake up, they’ll spend time on it. It’s a noble idea and I guess if you’re a billionaire you probably have less to worry about, but during my day it becomes difficult. Perhaps I can use this forum to work on problems.

Workout was great again. I was up at 3 am and couldn’t get into a deep sleep so I watched the clock and at 4:45 I took my thyroid in an attempt to see if it would effect my workout. I honesty didn’t notice much. However, running has come back! My legs don’t feel as heavy and I have a pop back in my step. Hard to believe that thick blood can do that, but I guess there’s some truth to it!

Workout:
22 min run
3 x 500 row
30s hard on bike
3 x 10 clean and press
3 x 12 bag cleans
3 x 7 one arm rows (hard)

Well the Apple news finally came and it was good! All that waiting was worth it (I guess). The academy should be fun this summer - and hopefully worth it. I feel bad for Danielle. She certainly deserved it, but I guess didn’t get the video she wanted out there. It makes it slightly awkward, I’ll just have to continue to be humble about it.

Other news came in too! The sleep people called and the doctor wants to see me. I guess I’ll have to wait for an appointment to find the real news, but at least progress is being made. Only time will tell. My sleep last night was poor and really odd. I seemed to dry out the back of my throat even though I was breathing through my nose. As soon as I began to fall asleep I was awoken because it was too dry. Never happened to me before. Likely has something to do with me getting sick. I’ll keep the vitamins going and hopefully it doesn’t get worse.

The workout this morning was great. It was warm and humid, but my legs and back felt wonderful during the run. My breathing suffered, but that’s not new nor does it concern me. I was getting worried there because it was beginning to get so discouraging to run. I hope can keep this momentum and keep my legs about me.

Invention convention is going to get a little crazy now. I’ll have to keep up on the groups and make sure I have enough dragons.

Workout:
22 min run
3 x 500 row
3 x 30s hard on bike
3 x 10 cleans
3 x 20-25 KB swings
3 x 10 one arm row (each arm)

April! Today is the day I find out about Apple. Man, that’s been hularious to watch. People take this stuff very seriously. It reminded me about how much we spend promoting ourselves and what little it has to do with our actual jobs. I look on Twitter and see all of these credentials that teachers have, but in my experience a better education doesn’t translate into a better teacher. This is good because if I don’t get the Apple certification than I can’t be that disappointed. Their criteria is much different than mine!

I slept in through my alarm today and didn’t get a workout in. Funny enough, I woke up at 6:15 inserted of 5:15 and went to bed about 1.5 hours later. My body is obviously tuned into getting up early. I’ll have to make up for it today by getting a lunch workout in. Just need to hit the iron. I even thought about a run, but I need to drop some weight before I’m comfortable getting out there again. Mostly I need the back pain to subside!

Workout:
Deadlift
Tri pull downs
Leg press
pull-ups
