Steam sale today! Good timing too because Melissa is away tonight. I’ll get some decent gaming in when the kids go to bed.
Had an unusually good sleep last night. Slept right through the night (from what I remember) and woke up before my alarm. Always a good sign. I’m looking forward to getting some rest over the break and resetting my body. Also looks like I’ll be able to squeeze in that assault bike at some point. Having another option for cardio is excellent, especially on those days when my legs are sore.
Looked into some options for nutrition and found a couple of sketchy places. Just to get some credentials would help and it would be even better if it were covered by insurance. Having some clients that I could see over the summer would be a neat addition to my income. Even offering advice online.
Workout:
22 min run
3 x 500 row
3 x 10 one arm cleans KB
3 x 10 turkish get-up (painful)
3 x 10 one arm rows
3 x 10 bar jumps

The last full day of school before the break! Why is it that I feel like I’m limping into the vacation? Is it because I know it’s coming? It’s slightly frustrating because I hate being so fatigued. I just sometimes don’t get it - especially when I want to blame others for being tired. Again, its the tired story and the answers are coming. I just need to focus on getting through the days.
I’ve been having stomach issues lately as a result of this berberline supplement. I’m going to continue to use it with the hope that it will work, however, after about 6-8 weeks if nothing changes I’m ditching it. I actually feel a little worse in the digestive system when it’s supposed to make me better. Diet has been off though…
I’ve been reading/watching about insulin and it’s effects on weight. Apparently lowering insulin will lower your weight. Fasting is the easiest way to get yourself to be more insulin sensitive. That, and cutting out sugar. I’m going to try some longer fasts in the new year and cut down sugar. The key is to schedule them in a way that doesn’t greatly effect my workouts. I do feel much better when I’m fasting.
Workout:
22 min run
3 x 500 row
3 x 10 cleans
3 x 12 romanian bag squat
3 x 40 double unders
3 x 12-14 back rows

A couple more days until the Steam sale! Can you tell where my priorities are? I’m just looking forward to having some time to relax and I think games help me accomplish that. They’re a great way to stay engaged mentally but also allow your mind to relax and take a break from everyday life.
I wonder how much of my fatigue comes from knowing that a break is around the corner? Probably speeds it up I guess. When the alarm clock went of this morning it sure felt like I was on a break. Workout was good though, just needed to shake those cob webs out. Definitely not going to drink wine the night before. My head is still pounding and I didn’t even drink that much.
Workout:
22 min run
3 x 500 row
3 x 10 deadlift
3 x 25 KB swings
3 x 10 one arm rows (each arm)
3 x 10 bar jumps

Final week! I took a look at some pictures from last week and was absolutely shocked by the size of the bags under my eyes. I’m really looking forward to getting some answers to this sleep problem soon. Even if it turns out to be nothing, I’ll know that I required a tremendous amount of sleep. Or even better, maybe they can figure it out and I’ll be able to get something to help. Wouldn’t that be nice?
I’ve been feeling bloated lately. Definitely has to do with the amount of sugar I’m consuming. The next two weeks will be rough, but once the new year hits, I’m game to get back on track to a better fitter life. I need to make an effort to enjoy the next two weeks so that in the dead of the winter I’ll have some motivation to keep going.
I looked into becoming a dietician and it turns out a 3 or 4 year degree is required. I’m thinking that perhaps attempting a MOOC might be the best starting point. I’ll look into it. The problem is that I’m only going to be using it as a hobby. But how cool would it be to have a summer dietician practice? Pretty cool if you ask me.

As part of two weeks of fun, I’m actually going to slow down on the workouts this week. Today I’ll try and get in to do some heavy lifting.

Henry’s b-day is done and now it’s the race until Xmas. So glad that there’s just a week left. Hopefully I can get some time to chill this weekend and take the foot off the gas pedal a little bit. The workouts are great, but as the year wears on it becomes increasingly more difficult to keep my energy up during the days.
I’ve become really interested in nutrition lately. It might be just a fad, but it would be cool to do my nutrition degree and have a little practice on the side about it. Nutrition seems to be one of those areas where people really understand what needs to be done, but there’s not a ton of practitioners for it. Also seems pretty easy to break into the field. Something to ponder over the next while. I love my job dearly, but it’s nice to have something outside of it to keep the other parts of my mind occupied. I once thought the Apple role or Google would work, but they’re just another side of it. Motivational speaking is another.

Henry’s b-day! Can’t believe it’s been 2 years already. Amazingly quick. Funny enough, I don’t remember the lack of sleep as much as I did with Charlotte. It’s true that Henry was a much better sleeper, but there were some long nights. Even after all this time, I feel only slightly more rested than I did when both kids were infants. Sleep. Sleep. Sleep. Always on my mind these days.
I was doing some research yesterday about fasting. Didn’t realize there was so much controversy to it! I’ve found it to be a great way to manage my calorie intake. Sure, I get the hunger pains around lunch, but honestly I’ve really never felt better since I’ve started the protocol. Lately I have been thinking about breakfast, but mostly its in the context of gaining muscle and improving the quality of calories. When I get back on the sauce in the new year I’ll likely try to up the quality calorie intake in order to build muscle. As always, an ongoing process…
Workout:
22 min run
3 x 500 row
3 x 7 deadlift
3 x 10 romanian bag front squat
3 x 10 back rows

Sore shoulder this morning. Usually it goes away by now. I really should look into getting some physiotherapy on it. This doctors not stuff is just terrible. Anyway, that’s another topic. I’m in the home stretch now. Tomorrow morning will be my last tough workout of the week and then it’s Henry’s b-day and Friday. Next week will be a breeze as we can take our foot of the gas a little and really it’s only a 3 day week because Thursday is a write-off with all the activities.
I put some effort into writing yesterday with good result. It really is a muscle that you need to keep working otherwise it wastes away. Hopefully I can get some momentum so that I can continue to blog, especially for Cohort 21. I feel like I’ve let that one get away!
Workout:
22 min run
3 x 500 row
3 x 10 one arm KB clean and press (each arm)
3 x 20 KB swing
3 x 10 bar jumps
3 x 7 DB complex

Tuesday morning. Caffeine free workout and boy it was tougher than I thought. Just didn’t have the get up and go that I normally would. Especially with the heavy workout yesterday. The good news is that I had an alcohol free night and a decent sleep. I feel so much better when I get the workout in the morning. It just feels like your day has purpose. To get up and accomplish something is glorious!
Pressfield was talking about fundamentalism vs art yesterday. Fundamentalism is the journey back to basics because resistance prevents people from embracing change. Artists create, fundamentalists go back to the basic premise of original primitive idea because it’s easier than embracing change. Pushing the envelope via creation is an important step in the journey to a better world. Deep, but important.

22 min run
3 x 500 row
3 x 7 clean and press 120 lbs
3 x 10 romanian bag squats

12 days until Xmas! Wow, I haven’t bought any gifts yet. I’ll need to get on Melissa’s cookbook ASAP if it’s going to arrive on time. Weekend was good - busy but good. It was nice to have some time on the computer to just chill out. Rest is what the doctor ordered. Speaking of rest, it might be what the doctor ordered today. Given the schedule, I don’t think I’ll have an opportunity to workout. Hopefully I can get in there for a quick one. If not, push-ups in the science lab is what is on tap. It’s probably also a good idea to keep my body rested as well.
I’m hoping this week isn’t too painful. I’ll have the motivation to continue forward to the holidays!
Workout:
Squats if possible TBD

Weird. It feels like it’s much closer to Christmas than December the 9th. There’s still 2 more full weeks of school left. The good news is that after next Tuesday night, the remaining time should be a piece of cake as we wind down with practices and and late nights. Christmas will come fast. I’m really looking forward to that Thursday night of the 22nd knowing that the following morning I can sleep in a little and not have to worry about working out. Those days are always wonderful. Then, two days later, I’ll get another freebee.
After listening to Seth and Pressfield, I’ve been getting more motivated to complete an art project. I’m thinking that my website is an easy go to. Coding is also on the radar, but much more difficult and time consuming. I definitely prefer to be more visual (even though I’m not great at it). I should investigate more coding applications and try to understand GitHub a little better. Perhaps this morning is a great opportunity to do it.
