Education

Inspire. Innovate. Create.

"Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known." - Carl Sagan
As an educator, I work hard to foster student curiosity through hands-on inquiry-based learning. Students spend time designing, building and testing ideas in the context of the curriculum instead of reading textbooks. They become adept at research, collaboration and construction. Technology is their important ally. Projects are grounded in citizen science and directly correlate with 21C skills. They fail, but learn from their mistakes. They leave the classroom each day equipped with an increasingly refined critical view of the world. They are scientists.

Educational Philosophy

Experiential learning is the foundation of modern education. Incorporating challenge-based learning, MakerSpaces, and problem-solving fosters innovation, creativity and grit in students.

Resources

Tools, tips, hacks!
Check out some of the important (and mostly free) resources that I use in my classroom.
Future Design School - Building creativity
#EveryoneCanCreate
This is a great resource that shows you how to create an interactive application using Keynote!

Assessment using EdTech
Personalized learning environments require highly adaptive and often real-time tools that enable ongoing student success. At the same time, assessment and evaluation techniques are becoming increasingly more challenging given the complexity of curriculum expectations, the rich diversity of our learners, and drive for student-choice in evaluations. In this interactive session, you will have the opportunity to experience, evaluate and test the latest edtech tools that enable the capture of observations, conversations and products of student learning. You will get hands-on experience with cost-effective, easy to use iOS and web-based applications that will techify your classroom assessment.
Coding without tears
This presentation focuses on the use  of  mostly free apps to teach code in the lower and middle school grades.
