Had a decent night’s sleep given he fact I had some beers before bed. I always wake up feeling guilty for doing it. Must be related to that idea of resistance. At least today will be short and hopefully I can get home and relax with the kids for a bit. I will need to work and must remember to make a diligent list of things to do!
One thing I learned: If you can do something in under 5 minutes, make it happen. The brain power required to keep it top of mind is too great and a waste of good resources. Make lists and keep them close as possible. Try to break the lists down in to smaller short term tasks. Take items of the lists if more than a week passes with no action. It’s obviously not that important.
One piece of motivation: Put yourself in hard situations. Jocko believes that this is the key to growth and development. Humans have this inane idea that orderly is better. Chaos is in fact a natural way of the world. Embrace the chaos and free your mind!
Three ideas: Definitely focusing on this game based learning pitch for quest. I think it will be an easier sell and I have the materials. It will be harder to connect deeper learning, but I could probably use my original pitch of action and motivation to self-learning. How games can help.
Workout: Going to try and run 10k today in the afternoon. I don’t feel particularly sore, but I’m sure will struggle after eating and hitting that mid-afternoon low.

Back to the mini gym workout. My strength was way down. I could hardly get the 95 lb bar over my head. Oh well. I’m assuming it’s because I’ve taken some time off and it was 5 am. Keep on given’r!
I felt a little overwhelmed this morning thinking of everything I need to accomplish in the next couple of weeks. I’m sure it will get done, I just may need to spend some late nights here making it happen. It’s important to remember that once May hits, it’s all downhill! I really need to bang out a good performance for Invention Convention and Earth Day.
One thing I learned: According to Jocko, being able to detract yourself from the situation is an essential skill.
One piece of motivation: Amy went out of her way to tell me she enjoyed my chapel talks and understands that I like to perform. It’s true. It’s enlightening to know that people can recognize it. I just wonder what I should do about it?
Three ideas: I’m currently deep into reorganizing my idea for Quest 2015. I’m thinking that the gamification of classrooms might be a more appropriate topic for elementary teachers. I could site the badges, use Minecraft and wolf quest and have lots of easily accessible material. Might be a good way to leap.
Workout:
22 min run
3 x 500 row
3 x 10 clean and press
3 x 10 romanian bag squat
3 x 10 bar jumps
3 x 20 medicine ball push-ups

Welcome back! Goodness it’s cold here. At least it’s sunny. Slept pretty well considering that the time change was weird. I’ve heard that it’s much harder going west then the other way around. Anyway, feeling good so far this morning and pretty happy that I didn’t workout.
I’m back to a more managed diet today. The fasting will help. It was interesting to see how my body reacted to so much running! I think when the weather gets warmer, it might be a good idea to try and get outside for a run. I wonder even if I came early here to do my morning run. Maybe on Friday I’ll go for a run during the day.
One thing I learned: Kissing ass isn’t my gig. I’m clearly a skeptic and the only road that I’m going to have success on in my career, is one that I make myself. This is NOT a bad thing. If I can get this book out and think about a business, I’ll be well on my way to fulfilling some of those dreams and desires that I have.
One piece of motivation: Be humble. Be brave. Get after it.
Three ideas: Gofundme campaign to raise money to teach entrepreneurship to disadvantaged kids. I really need to talk to Scully about this shit! I also really need to get on it. Keep updating the blog!
Workout: Taking a day off. Early morning tomorrow and during the day on Friday.

Vancouver trip! It's been a whirlwind, so I’m piling it all into one entry.
I’ve been on the Stanley Park trail for 4 days now! Feeling good too. I’ve been able to eat great food, drink beer and exercise. What else do you need in life? Hopefully today we can get out and do some shopping and have lunch.
As somewhat suspected, I’ve been disappointed by this conference (not the trip of course). It seems like the ideas aren’t new, the disconnect is large and the idea that education is trying to grasp the chaos is good in a way, but perhaps wrong in a way too. Perhaps the book can focus on the other side of the game. Great heading!
One thing I learned: Facebook is experiencing a decline because people aren’t using it as an immediate sharing tool anymore. They are switching to more intimate platforms like Instagram, mirroring an online private social setting. It’s possible that even Instagram will switch away to something else.
One piece of motivation: Be humble. Be brave. Get after it. This has been my motto for the trip and getting up to run.
Three ideas: After attending this conference, I certainly see some opportunity for my book and especially potentially speaking at a conference. Just need to finish and edit it.

An OK workout this morning. Didn’t feel bad at all. It’s a strange feeling overcoming that tiredness. However, when you’re finished it’s absolutely fantastic. Today is Vancouver day! Tonight I’ll be sleeping in a hotel across the country - pretty cool even in today’s massive travel world. I have a bit of anxiety related to the conference. I really don’t want to participate in some of the workshops and activities. I certainly feel like I don’t belong. We’ll see though - it probably won’t be as bad as I think. At least I’ll have people to hand with and I’m sure they won’t ditch. If that happens, I’ll just bail. It may jeopardize future trips. Who knows...
Had pizza last night and the atkins/quest bar. Huge gas problems. I really need to be careful today because of bloating and bad gas. Especially on an airplane.
One thing I learned: Fear is just part of the entire experience of an event. You really need to recognize it and set it straight before it paralyzes you. In my case, it’s quite obvious that I’m fearful of the conference. Mostly because I feel like I’d rather be out doing different things instead of bonding with people who are not my peers. I need to pony up and make the best of it by recognizing that I have an opportunity and I should take advantage of it. Hu-rah!
One piece of motivation: When you give someone your art, do not take it personally if it’s criticized. Wolf need not worry about the thoughts or feelings of sheep.
Three ideas: I really need to build a platform to present my idea of entrepreneurship in the book. I should take copious notes and photos/videos during this years invention convention so that I can share this wonderful event with others. I think this is my gateway to Quest 2016.
Workout:
22 min run
3 x 500 row
3 x 6-way bear complex
3 x 12 hungarian bag front squat
3 x 30 double unders
3 x 5-each arm turkish get-ups

Another decent morning workout. I dropped the ball on organizing a good workout. Too much conditioning, not enough strength. Tomorrow I’ll squat and work the legs hard. That way the run through Stanley Park will be challenging!
Sleep was pretty decent too. I woke up around midnight to pee but don’t recall any extended awake time after returning to bed. I woke up again at 4, but actually felt awake - this is good! Tomorrow will be a good test because Thursday’s are usually tough. However, the whole Vancouver excitement might change the mood for the better.
I really want to nail this presentation on Sunday for whoever shows. Even if it’s 8 people, I’d still like to rock it hard. Set the tone for the entire conference.
One thing I learned: Myths are stories about the humans we want to be like. We need to be careful about Myths because some tell us a story like Icarus - behave if you must!
One piece of motivation: Run like a race even though you’re not at the Olympics. It sets the tone for the rest of the day and helps with any challenges you face. If you’re used to finding another gear then when it really counts in work, family or love, you’ll be able to hit hard and fast.
Three ideas: I need to keep on this entrepreneurship idea. After seeing that article in the Star, I can use Scully and investigate the local universities to showcase the need to make it happen. MUST finish the book - overcome the resistance.
Workout:
22 min run
3 x 500 row
3 x 10 kettle bell squat
3 x 20 kettle bell swing
3 x 10 kettle bell swing after rest
3 x 5 kettle bell clean and press (each arm)
3 x 20 medicine ball push-ups
3 x fatigue (10) sled pushes

Great workout this morning. Was a little tired, but not the crazy low energy I’ve had in the past. I’m thinking it’s a result of a great night’s sleep. Only woke up once and it was at 4 am. I went right back to sleep and was jerked away in the middle of a dream. Clearly this lifestyle of getting up early is much better than staying up late. I need to extend it into my free time life. Vancouver is just around the corner and it would be a great launching platform to do this.
It’s calling for rain on Saturday in Vancouver. Might wreck any plans that we have to do something outdoors. Hopefully not.
One thing I learned: Science and Math are the buns in the sandwich of creativity. The T E A part is where the creativity really lives.
One piece of motivation: There is no bad weather, just bad clothing!
Three ideas: Work for a company that goes around presenting like black board or something. Although making your own road has it’s benefits.
Workout:
22 min run
3 x 500 row
3 x 10 DB clean and press
3 x 15 sandbag burpee
3 x 10 Hungarian bag squat
3 x Ropes as much as possible

This entry is a a day late, oops. Was a productive day and I was able to finish most of my work for the coming week. I still have mixed feelings about this trip and I’m not exactly sure why. I’m nervous that this conference will be too formal and not very fun. I’m sure it will be fun, I’ll just have to remember to make the most of the free time I get!
One thing I learned: Not really something I learned, but more like something I need to learn! I need to investigate how I could pitch the entrepreneur workshop into the Quest conference. I could use the invention convention as an example, but really need to focus on the interactive portion and overall concept.
One piece of motivation: When I’m in hour 3 of a run I realized that I hadn’t thought a thought in an hour. Moving is more meditative
Three ideas: Storytelling is an interesting concept. I saw that Luke was going to a storytelling festival and after some research saw that there’s plenty of storytelling events in the city. It’s something that I’d like to do and probably be good at. I wonder if it would be possible to bring it to the school or even in business.
Workout:
22 min run
3 x 500 row
3 x 10 95b clean and press
3 x 15 Hungarian bag squat
3 x 10 bar jumps
3 x vicious heavy bag assault

Nice quiet morning. Had a decent night’s sleep - went to bed early - but Charlotte woke up and kept us up for a little while. Anyway, good to take a day off and recover a bit. I’ll have to head to bed early tonight so that I can get up and workout before swimming.
Ate pizza and had some diet beer yesterday. I think that’s why I’m feeling slightly crumby today. I’ll need to watch my calories today. Drinking will be limited too so that I can get up early and workout. I’ll be able to booze it up Saturday night. I’m going to experiment with taking it easy tonight.
One thing I learned: Slader is a website that gives answers to homework/textbook questions. This shows that the internet has rendered the traditional way of learning useless. Instead of assigning homework in the form of practice, why not try and have kids answer interesting problems instead?
One piece of motivation: The role of the teacher is to inspire, to intervene, and to raise up the motivated but stuck student. Instead of punishing great teachers with precise instructions on how to spend their day, we give them the freedom to actually teach. - Seth Godin, Stop Stealing Dreams
Three ideas: Going to apply to speak at Quest. Why not? I’m going in with the tech minded entrepreneurial approach. I’ll need to figure out the exact pitch, but something along the lines of deeper learning with an entrepreneurial mindset.
Workout:
Off day!
